Ellis Bell –
Most Little Critter books are cute/sweet, but this one was honestly boring – odd & very disjointed, jumping from one thing to the next without any continuity. While I know this doesn’t matter to a lot of readers, I would like to address anyone seeking a Thanksgiving book that adheres to vegetarian &/or vegan tenets: surprisingly, this book is NOT appropriate! It’s getting harder to find kids’ books that DON’T feature a cooked turkey, but I went out on a limb buying this because there is a live turkey on the cover! Little critter even dresses up as a turkey for a play! Despite all of this, & the fact that they surround themselves with other woodland creatures, they still discuss AND illustrate buying a frozen turkey, cooking the turkey, & eating the turkey!! SO disappointing & such a missed opportunity to just let woodland animals eat plants without any overt reference to vegetarianism &/or veganism necessary! It shouldn’t be hard to find books that are “Cruelty-Free” in 2023 – but sadly, it is. Add in the fact that this book simply isn’t cohesive or interesting, & it’s definitely a thumbs down from my family. Will be donating. (Before judging my review, know that it is based solely on the overall content & writing, as it should be! I have made no deductions simply because it doesn’t happen to be vegetarian/vegan because it never advertised itself as such – though the live turkey on the cover is misleading!)

Great story. Bright colors. My autistic son love little critter stories. This has been a nightly read since purchased, 4 months ago.

A pretty good children’s book. My 3 year old daughter and I enjoy reading it before bedtime. She really likes the reward of getting a sticker every time we finish the story. The book has 20 stickers of things in the story. So that is a nice incentive to have them pay attention to the whole book before they get a reward. I felt like other reviewers that the story does not really explain very much why we celebrate Thanksgiving. The book starts out in a classroom scene it would have been easy to just add 2 pages to that. The story does focus on a school play, town parade, cooking the dinner, and feeding the homeless. So it does cover some ground for a children’s story. I agree with some other reviewers as well that Little Critter does not really face any consequences in this story for his actions that is why I would keep this book out of the 5 star range.I grew up with Mercer Mayer stories. I always liked the colorful pages and adventures Little Critter and his family would go on. The books are great for young first time readers not overly wordy with text. The price is very acceptable, I would recommend reading it at the library first before purchasing.

This is a book my five-year-old granddaughter loves. I purchased four Thanksgiving books. There were two that she insisted need more stars and this is one of them. She says it needs ten stars.

We are big fans of Little Critter and this Thanksgiving book was a hit with my 3 year old daughter, especially because there were stickers too! The stickers were great, all the stickers were from scenes in the book. A very cute story with a sweet message at the end and the illustrations are colorful and there is so much to look at. On each page there is a little black spider and mouse, sometimes they are hard to find so it’s fun looking for them on each page with my daughter. I am so happy that these Little Critter books are still around and that they are still publishing new ones. I grew up with these books and now my daughter is growing up with them as well! This book was a great price on Amazon, at any other store this book would be $4.99. For less than $3 it’s a steal, especially since it comes with over 20 stickers! Very happy with this book purchase!

I love Mercer Mayer’s Little Critter books and was hoping for a good thanksgiving story but it’s just ok. The kids ages 3-5 got a little confused during the parade part and ask questions every time we read it. I feel like some things aren’t explained out well enough through out the book.
